Know the difference between ABS plastic products & Fiberglass products
ABS plastic isn't as durable as fiberglass and cannot be repaired if cracked. Fiberglass is not only extremely strong for its weight, it can be repaired by anyone. Repair kits are available at any auto parts store. For info on fiberglass, click here.
Product Information for Saddlebags:
Bags are fresh from the molds and will need to be prepped for painting. Painting fiberglass is much the same as painting a fender on a car. Block sand, prime, sand & paint. They are hinged in the front, with a chrome plated locking latch at the rear. The latches are keyed alike. The bags are fully assembled, however, the hinges and latches are bolted on so you can easily remove the hardware for painting the bags. The mounts are made of aircraft quality aluminum with a brushed finish and are quite sturdy. You can easily carry 15 pounds per side.
Saddlebag Measurements:
MM02 The lid opening of the smaller bag is approximately 8 X 17 inches. The overall height including the lid is about 12 inches. The slant on the front and rear of the bag is 33 degrees, (or 57 degrees, depending on how you measure), which gives the bags an overall length of about 22.75 inches. Both sizes use the same lid.
MM08 The lid opening of the deeper bag is also 8 X 17 but is 1 1/2 inches taller/deeper/ higher, however you want to say it, for a height of 13.5 inches. The overall length is about 23 inches. Both sizes utilize the same lid.
The Bags are Sold as a KIT
The customer does the painting and configuring the mounts. Since the mounts are universal, the customer has to use his/her judgement on the exact position of the bags, drill the bags, and add the correct spacers (not supplied) if necessary. On some bikes, longer bolts (not supplied) are required to attach the mounts to the fender rails. Complete instructions are provided with each set or an email copy can be sent on request.
We do everything in house so that we can keep the price as low as possible. However, we don't do the custom painting of the bags at our facility. This allows the customer to find a local shop where custom graphics and colors can be applied. This way, if you get a scratch or ding, you can easily go back to the local shop and get a touch-up. You can also order factory matched paint online at Color Rite if you prefer. Some auto paint stores can analyze the paint from your bike using a spectrometer and mix up a perfect or near perfect match. You usually have to carry a side cover or other part into the store for them to analyze.
